The daughter of John Negroponte, a former US diplomat who held multiple high level positions in the George W. Bush administration, has been charged with first degree murder in Maryland.
Sophia Negroponte, 27, was arrested on Thursday after police arrived at her home over reports of a stabbing. They found 24-year-old Yousuf Rasmussen “inside the residence suffering from what appeared to be a cutting wound,” according to a statement from the Montgomery County Police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“During the investigation, detectives determined that Rasmussen and Negroponte were acquaintances and that they were involved in a disagreement while inside the home on W. Montgomery Avenue. During the disagreement, Rasmussen was injured,” the statement continued.
The department added that Rasmussen’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Baltimore where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the manner and cause of his death.
