The cultural revolution marches onward, encouraging weak-minded public figures to denounce themselves or change up their image because a vocal minority of their lefty fans might find something to be offended by. Country group Lady Antebellum recently announced that they would be changing their band name to Lady A to distance themselves from pre-civil war history.
Thank heavens. Now we surely know that the group doesn’t like racism.
Now that the left has figured out how easy it is for them to use extremist movements disguised as equality movements (Black Lives Matter) to shame the public, it has created a domino effect of individuals, artists, and corporate entities denouncing themselves for thought crimes that weren’t thought crimes a week ago. Insecure and pandering artists like Lady Antebellum fell for this trick and scrubbed their old band name because it harkened back to a time in America’s history when slavery was a thing.
In a statement posted to the Grammy award-winning country group’s Instagram page, the band referenced their need to strive for “inclusivity,” especially in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and committed to dropping “the word ‘Antebellum’ from our name and move forward as Lady A.”
Historically, “Antebellum” is a reference to the pre-civil war American south, which relied heavily on slavery. Although the band explained that their name was not a reference to slavery, but a reference to “music born in the south that influenced us…Southern Rock, Blues, R&B, Gospel and of course Country,” they had to change it, because somehow a mere reference to this historical period causes racial “hurt.”
The band, which has made eight albums and has been around 14 years, explained, “We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued. Causing pain was never our hearts’ intention, but it doesn’t change the fact that indeed, it did just that.” So even though they’ve been around forever and have known about history probably –considering their name had a Civil War reference – they’re going to change it up because of a killing may or may not have had anything to do with racism?
Yeah sounds exactly like they’re branding for this new woke mob audience. Though if their customers were really paying attention, the “A” in Lady A still stands for “Antebellum” and their music ultimately harkens back to that time of slaves. So all the reminders of slavery they’re trying to distance from are still there.
If they are going to be consistent with their appeal for social justice, Lady A would destroy every particle of their brand and business. And if they were really committed to social justice, its newly-sterile members would go and loot Nashville record companies because country music’s roots can be traced to slave times.
Don’t get us wrong, we don’t want Lady Antebellum to be destroyed, we’re just saying they should have held their ground and explained the obvious point that just because they make a reference to America’s past doesn’t mean they love all that was associated with it. If the left gets it’s full wish, Country music, much less Lady A, won’t be around too much longer.
