MSNBC Warns: America Stuck in an ‘Abusive Relationship’ With Trump

Posted on 23 June 2020

MSNBC’s Morning Joe never fails to provide biased news coverage and ridiculous opinions, with Tuesday’s opening segment being no exception. Before most Americans watching even had time to take a sip of coffee, co-host Mika Brzezinski and her guest Jon Meacham were attacking President Trump. Mika started off by getting wound up about the President’s events scheduled for that afternoon, shocking no one:  The trail of germs left in Tulsa after 6,200 people crammed into the lower seats of a convention center is going to be bad enough and now he's hopscotching across the country, sending a signal that masks are a bad idea. This president constantly is putting American people's lives at risk as he demands their presence.  Brzezinski "trail of germs" comment was particularly despicable considering she refused to condemn the danger in any of the protests that have taken place over the last couple of weeks, which featured images of thousands packed tightly together with sparse mask wearing.  Her remark that the President is putting lives in danger to satisfy his ego is nothing more than the usual empty, heated rhetoric rather than a factual statement about the president’s campaign.  But alas, Mika’s comments were not the most outlandish portion of the segment. That honor went to Meacham, who utilized some pretty disturbing language when discussing Trump’s relationship with the American people: I chuckle, which I shouldn't do, but it is a remarkable thing that we have, in some ways allowed ourselves and I think we'll be spending a lot of time, we as a nation, trying to figure out levels of responsibility, locking ourselves in this repetitive drama with Donald Trump. It is almost like an abusive relationship and we do enable him. First of all, the notion that Trump has abused Americans in the way that Meacham’s words invoked was particularly disgusting. Most of the time, the words "abusive relationship" indicate some kind of physical, emotional, or mental abuse. Promoting the idea that Trump has engaged in that with the American people was not only nasty, but dismissive of millions of voters who support the president. But those ideas aren’t new to Meacham, who during the impeachment proceedings in January described the partisan process as being about who we are as a nation. Mika is no stranger to standing by heated and factually false rhetoric that is uttered on her show, as she used such language herself earlier in the segment. She also stood by just last week as her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough suggested Trump wanted to kill journalists.  It just goes to show that even as distrust of the media grows, the media continue to justify the reason for that distrust.  Read the transcript below to learn more MSNBC’s Morning Joe 6-23-20 6:03 AM MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The trail of germs left in Tulsa after 6,200 people crammed into the lower seats of a convention center is going to be bad enough and now he's hopscotching across the country, sending a signal that masks are a bad idea.
