Although Netflix streaming service has a "Big Pedo Problem,' most recently with the film “Cuties,” it appears as though Facebook is refusing to allow despicable content on its platform.
Facebook allegedly removed a clip from the Netflix movie Cuties for violating its terms of “adult sexual exploitation,” tweeted Brittany Martinez. The founder and editor-in-chief of Evie magazine, Martinez had posted the video which received 500,000 views before it was removed.
Evie Magazine confirmed that the video was a clip from Cuties, “particularly of a dance routine featuring the main young cast of girls,” it said in a comment to MRC.
“Facebook took down the ‘Cuties’ video from my page after hitting 500,000 views because it violated their terms of ‘adult sexual exploitation.’ I agree with them. Except children are exploited,” said Martinez in a September 13 tweet.
The Cuties film, which was released on Netflix earlier this month, features a girl named Amy, 11, who joins a twerking dance crew and “rebels against her conservative family’s traditions,” according to the Netflix description.
The film has sparked outrage amongst, well, normal people who recognize the danger in overt sexualization of 11-year-old children.
Instead of realizing the dangers of promoting the sexual exploitation of minors, Netflix has reportedly encouraged people to watch the film.
Media Research Center President and Founder Brent Bozell tweeted about the film on multiple occasions, calling it “truly horrific,” and saying “@netflix wants to be the go-to place for pedophiles. Really disturbing.”
Facebook is certainly not perfect when it comes to removing content from its platform. It has removed or labelled multiple posts from President Donald Trump just in the last few weeks. On September 3, for example, Facebook flagged Trump’s post that told voters how to make sure their votes have been properly collected and tabulated. In August, the platform removed a video of Trump discussing the effects of COVID-19 on children.
Ensuring that children are protected from sexual predators should not be controversial. Thankfully, Facebook appears to understand the importance of this, and one can truly only hope that Netflix will follow suit.
