The Federal Department Of Justice looked at the possibility of charging Portland area “leaders” with crimes related to the 100+ days of perpetual riots and other unrest. Some elected officials, such as city councilpersons-of-unspecified-gender Chloe Eudaly and Jo Ann Hardesty openly encouraged the “protesters,” while others, such as vichy “mayor” Ted Wheeler and “governor” Kate Brown simply turned a blind eye to the the violence and instead tried to blame strawmen “white supremacists” for causing the chaos. Then you have Multnomah county District Attorney Mike Schmidt, who announced that he would drop charges on most of the rioters. Don’t forget high ranking police commanders, such as Deputy Chief Chris Davis, who have assisted the rioters by ordering officers to shut down freeways to cede the areas to the terrorists. This is conjunction with apparent long standing orders for police to stand down as the terrorists do their rioting.
The Department of Justice considered federal charges for city of Portland officials over their response to ongoing protests against police brutality, and over the city’s refusal to allow local police to communicate directly with federal agents deployed there.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler responded Thursday to reports that the U.S. Department of Justice looked into charging Portland officials over their response to ongoing protests against systemic racism, and explored the idea that local officials’ actions and public statements may have stirred up continued protests.
“This is ridiculous on its face,” Wheeler said in a statement. “It is more grandstanding by a President seeking to intimidate anyone who calls out his divisive agenda.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly ridiculed Wheeler on his handling of ongoing protests, and Wheeler has consistently taken Trump’s invitation into public fights. In one such instance, Wheeler struck out at Trump in an Aug. 30 press conference that was streamed live on CNN.
“Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence?” Wheeler asked. “It’s you who have created the hate and the division. And now you want me to stop the violence that you helped create. What America needs is for you to be stopped so that Americans can come together.”
Trump immediately tweeted at Wheeler — a development a reporter asked Wheeler about moments later.
“Ted Wheeler, the wacky Radical Left Do Nothing Democrat Mayor of Portland, who has watched great death and destruction of his City during his tenure, thinks this lawless situation should go on forever,” Trump wrote. “Wrong! He would like to blame me and the Federal Government for going in, but he hasn’t seen anything yet.”
Wheeler has had a remarkably hands-off approach to leading his own police, allowing officers to escalate force for months. Videos show Portland police tackling and repeatedly punching protesters. Other videos show officers pulling off the masks of protesters who are already on the ground, restrained by police, in order to pepper spray them directly in the face.
Local police and federal agents used the chemical weapon for over three months in such copious amounts that protesters reported changes to their menstrual cycles and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality launched an investigation of the chemical’s effects on the Willamette River. Police blanketed neighborhoods in tear gas on hot summer nights when many residents were sleeping with their windows open fans blowing the chemical into their homes.
The Associated Press, via KOIN 6, adds:
The Justice Department explored whether it could pursue either criminal or civil rights charges against city officials in Portland, Oregon after clashes erupted there night after night between law enforcement and demonstrators, a department spokesperson said Thursday.
The revelation that federal officials researched whether they could levy criminal or civil charges against the officials — exploring whether their rhetoric and actions may have helped spur the violence in Portland — underscores the larger Trump administration’s effort to spotlight and crack down on protest-related violence. The majority of the mass police reform demonstrations nationwide have been peaceful.
For many nights, federal officials were told that Portland police officers were explicitly told not to respond to the federal courthouse as hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside, some throwing bricks, rocks and other projectiles at officers, and not to assist federal officers who were sent to try to quell the unrest.
Of course the mainstream media can’t bear making the crazed left look bad, so they used a picture of Trump supporters for their article.
This comes just one day after it was revealed that the feds pondered pursuing charges against Seattle officials for the CHAZ/CHOP debacle.
Could the actions of these officials be considered some sort of aiding and abetting of domestic terrorism? Should they go to federal prison for actions or inaction?
