On The View Monday, the hosts argued over President Trump moving to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court and took issue with Judge Amy Coney Barrett making the list of possible picks. But co-host Meghan McCain slammed her co-hosts and the left’s attempt to smear Barrett for her Catholic faith as she passionately argued about the importance of the abortion issue, even saying it may motivate pro-lifers who wouldn’t vote for Trump to do so now.
The show opened with the liberal hosts boasting about how they cried at the news of Ginsburg’s passing (which seems to be a trend among virtue signaling journalists today) and then raging at Republicans looking to fill her seat before the election. Joy Behar claimed Republicans were too contemptible to even speak to anymore. “They are so beneath any kind of shamelessness that it's impossible to even talk to these people,” she fumed.
But McCain pointed out to her co-hosts that the stakes were just as high on the right and seeing how the left smeared Kavanaugh had “radicalized” Republicans like her on the importance of the Supreme Court picks:
[I] honestly think because I have been talking about this all weekend that Kavanaugh changed the game for a lot of Republicans, myself included. I was completely radicalized by the experience of watching him testify. I mean, there were accusations of him being part of a gang rape gang, and accusations that were completely baseless, and it has shown that Democrats on their side will do anything and everything to smear any conservative. Amy Coney Barrett is a hard core Catholic. Among other things, she has seven children. I completely expect her to be -- if she is the nominee, to be slandered and maimed in a way we've never seen before...
McCain even added this could move some people to vote for Trump that wouldn't have before: "If you are pro-life, like I am and 47 percent of the country is, it has become a reason to support President Trump if you were someone that was wavering."
Joy Behar sniped that the majority of the country didn't want to repeal Roe. Sara Haines proved her point by claiming everyone should be "scared" of Barrett because she wouldn't be able to separate church and state.
But McCain showed how this was just slander and an attempt to "Kavanaugh" Coney Barrett for her Catholicism:
You’re already seeing her slandered--and she also said “it's never appropriate for a judge to impose the judge’s personal convictions whether it arouse from faith or anything else in the law.” I want everyone who was talking about her Catholicism to put in being anything else: Being Muslim, being Jewish being Baptist, whatever. There seems to be a real bias against a woman who has seven children, and is Catholic and we’re seeing it. I just don't want her to get Kavanaughed because I don't think it’s fair.
While McCain was gone from the show during the Kavanaugh hearings due to her father's death, Joy Behar proclaimed Kavanaugh “guilty” and Sunny Hostin gave this loony defense of Kavanaugh’s accuser so we can only expect the liberal hosts' commentary to get much more hateful once Trump names his nominee.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: [I] honestly think because I have been talking about this all weekend that Kavanaugh changed the game for a lot of Republicans, myself included. I was completely radicalized by the experience of watching him testify. I mean there were accusations of him being part of a gang rape gang, and accusations that were completely baseless, and it has shown that Democrats on their side will do anything and everything to smear any conservative. Amy Coney Barrett is a hard core Catholic. Among other things, she has seven children. I completely expect her to be -- if she is the nominee, to be slandered and maimed in a way we've never seen before. I don't think that's what anyone wants. My last and final point that i wanted to say is this has turned the election back into battleground core meat and potato issues and if you are pro-life, like I am and 47% of the country is, it has become a reason to support President Trump if you were someone that was wavering. If you didn't necessarily think there was going to be a seat up, and it's interesting what's going to happen with the election just in the sense that we're not going to be talking about coronavirus in the same way that we were before. We're not going to be talking about The Atlantic piece. We're only going to be talking about these meat and potato issue that really really galvanize both sides and as you pointed out, Joy, the fund-raising that happened is staggering. I believe it’s been $100 million since Ruth Bader Ginsburg died.
JOY BEHAR: The majority of Americans do not want Roe v. Wade overturned by the way.
[Sara Haines plays 2016 republicans saying wait till election for SCOTUS pick]
SARA HAINES: So I hear a lot of these politicians referring to the people that put them in office, and the people should be heard. Well, they would be heard on November 3rd, and I think considering the fact that we're still suffering through an unprecedented pandemic and losing people every day, the focus on this should not be rushing these justices through in less than 45 days. I'm not surprised at the hypocrisy. I don't really expect -- I'm jaded a bit and cynical to D.C. and how it operates, but in the shadow of what's been left behind after Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing, the irony of what type of human she was and what we're seeing in our politicians is disheartening.
MCCAIN: But at the same time, you have people on the left that are screaming that they're going to pack and courts and create violence and you're going to see chaos that we've never seen if Mitch Mcconnell does this. Everyone is behaving badly across the board and the deep politicizing that happened right after she passed is true, and while you're correct that the majority of Americans are against repealing Roe V. Wade, the 47% of Americans are pro-life Joy, and every time I talk about it on the show, someone asks and it's received as if if it's this vast minority for the country. It's not. I'm telling you. For people who are pro-life, not never trumpers who got rid of their policies and every principle they ever had, for people like me, it is a meat and potatoes issue, much like guns and it will get people out, period.
[cross-talk]
HAINES: Without slandering some of the names we’re seeing, Judge Amy Coney Barrett
said something that should scare all of us. A legal career is but a means to an end --
MCCAIN: I would be very careful slandering her before she’s even--
HAINES: I'm not.
MCCAIN: This is what I'm talking about with the Kavanaugh stuff.
HAINES: Meghan, please just give me --
[Cut to commercial]
HAINES: The problem I have specifically with Judge Amy Coney Barrett are her own words, and this is a quote. A legal career is but a means to an end and that end is building the kingdom of god. I have been consistent and, you know, as long as I have ever spoken on this show on the importance of separation of church and state. It's what this country and the Constitution was built on. I do take issue with any judge or judicious mind that comes in maybe conflating the two, and that's all I was pointing out about specifically judge Amy Coney Barrett.
MCCAIN: But when you’re already seeing her slandered--and she also said “it's never appropriate for a judge to impose the judge’s personal convictions whether it arouse from faith or anything else into the law.” I want everyone who was talking about her Catholicism to put in being anything else: Muslim, being Jewish being Baptist, whatever, anything else. There seems to be a real bias against a woman who has seven children, and is Catholic and we’re seeing it. I just don't want her to get Kavanaughed because I don't think it’s fair.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: What I was trying is say is that one thing that gets me is you're saying it's a meat and potatoes issue, but here's the thing. It's an issue that's one-sided. You--People who are pro-life are, like, people who want people to have the ability to make that decision for themselves what their family needs, and my issue is why would you -- why would you tell me that I can't have something just because you don't want me to have it? I have a big problem with that because these are laws that are put in, and you don't have to have an abortion. No one has -- it's not required, but for people who feel they need to, that's between them and their doctor and that's the thing I have always felt and I always want to keep in mind. So if that's the only reason to vote somebody in, I think you have to sort of broaden it and see what other baggage they may be bringing with them. They said the same things, Meghan, about John Kennedy when he was running for president. They said, oh my god, a catholic person. He's going to be talking to the pope. He's going to be, you know, whenever people can grab onto religion as they did with Mitt Romney, as they're doing with her, they'll always use it, but the reality is hopefully when they get on board, when they become justices, they start talk about the law and not their personal law...
