If your last name is Clinton there is no safer space to promote yourself and be free from criticism than on The View. Chelsea Clinton, who’s promoted her books multiple times on the show, appeared on Tuesday’s episode to hawk her latest children's book as well, but that didn’t mean the hosts avoided asking her any political questions. Just none about her famous family of course.
Instead, the liberal hosts fretted with her about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court replacement taking away abortion rights and blaming President Trump for 200,000 Americans dying from the virus during a global pandemic.
Co-host Sunny Hostin asked, “How concerned are you about who will replace Justice Ginsburg and I guess the impact it will have on important issues like health care and reproductive rights?”
Sounding like Joy Behar, Clinton wailed that civil rights, healthcare, abortion, gun control and the environment were hanging in the balance with Ginsburg gone. But TDS-sufferer Joy Behar couldn't get by one interview without having a nasty question attacking Trump. She invited Clinton to blame the president for 200,000 Americans dead from coronavirus:
BEHAR: I want to ask you about the coronavirus. We heard President Trump admit he wanted to publicly downplay the threat of the pandemic when he spoke to Bob Woodward even though he knew it was spread through the air and it was going to be deadly. Then he lied to the American people and said it's going to disappear. America is about to hit the grim milestone of 200,000 lives lost due to COVID. How much do you blame him and his response or the lack thereof?
Of course Clinton put the blame solely on Trump, just as the media has done:
CLINTON: I blame him, um pretty fundamentally. I think um it's unconscionable that he lied to the American public about uh covid, that he continues to lie to the American people, that he has such a blatant disregard for public health and the advice um from public health experts that's pretty uniform around things like masks, the importance of social distancing, how much safer it is to be outside than inside, how important good ventilation is, I mean things we have known for months, things that certainly the president as we now know knew -- or at least had been told in February if not in January.
So, I blame him-- full stop. I also blame him for all he's not doing now to help prepare for when the scientists have proven a vaccine is safe and effective at scale. Um I blame him for not kind of marshaling a real effort to kind of build public confidence and demand for a vaccine that again is proven safe and effective. I blame him for not kind of building an army of vaccine workers to administer that. I blame him for not having a you know, transparent national plan for how he's going to ensure our frontline workers are vaccinated how our elderly and medically compromised are vaccinated and then how the rest of us are going to get vaccinated. Joy, I blame him for lying to the American people, um for continuing to kind of disparage science and public health advice and for not helping to prepare and protect us today, including kind of prepare us for when we do have a vaccine. So I think there's a lot of blame for the president and his administration for where we are and where we're going to be.
That was the end of the politics as the hosts moved on to promote Clinton’s girl power children’s book, “She Persisted In Sports," and ask her about motherhood.
Clinton was also thrown softballs to attack Republicans for filling Ginsburg’s seat and promote her brand on CBS This Morning yesterday.
