In a hearing about Big Tech censorship, one Democrat called for more censorship against opinions and information he dislikes.
Democrat Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) condemned Trump’s “propaganda parrots” on Fox News and his fellow conservatives for “peddling a myth” at a Big Tech hearing. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation October 28. Markey undermined the core idea of the “Does Section 230’s Sweeping Immunity Enable Big Tech Bad Behavior?” hearing by suggesting that “anti-conservative bias” at Big Tech is a “false narrative.” He declared:
“The issue is not that the companies before us today are taking too many posts down. The issue is that they’re leaving too many dangerous posts up. In fact, they’re amplifying harmful content so that it spreads like wildfire and torches our democracy.”
Markey contrasted the problems he considers to be real while gaslighting conservatives that their concerns about Big Tech bias are invalid:
“Here’s the truth, violence and hate speech online are real problems. Anti-conservtive bias is not a problem,” Markey suggested.
He then added that “foreign attempts to influence our election with misinformation,” Big Tech’s “Business model” are both real problems as well.
This hearing was launched shortly after recent censorship of a New York Post article across multiple Big Tech platforms. In a shocking revelation released by the Post on October 14, purported emails from Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son Hunter reportedly exposed the alleged scandalous dealings of both father and son in the Russia-bordering state of Ukraine.
Facebook responded by reducing the story’s circulation on its platform, crippling its ability to spread. Twitter responded by disabling the link to the story, claiming: “Warning: this link may be unsafe.” Twitter then censored the Post, the White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, OANN’s Jack Posobiec, the Trump Campaign, James Woods, Dana Loesch, NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck, and even the House Judiciary, a part of the government, for sharing this story.
Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representative and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on “hate speech” and equal footing for conservatives.
