It certainly is a remarkable world we live in. American media is so ignorant and so corrupt that instead of being able to recognize Joe Biden as a Catholic who promotes and mandates sinful behavior on a national level, they liken him to a religious maverick whose error on Church teaching could actually be a new, more nuanced way of interpreting Catholic dogma.
So a bad Catholic is actually a good Catholic with a fresh perspective? Yeah and two-plus-two is five. Welcome to Orwell’s Catholicism.
The insipid folks over at NPR joined the broader media’s recent campaign of trying to sell President Joe Biden as a guy who breaks all the rules -- in a praiseworthy way. Sure he’s going against Church teaching, but that’s because the old Church and the old faithful don’t know what’s good for them anymore. The piece claimed, “But for those who would like to see the church take a more permissive stance on issues including abortion, Biden's election is an opportunity.”
Oh really now? And what if Joe Biden had a more metaphorical view on the existence of Jesus? Well, that’s not heresy, that’s just a fresh perspective, eh?
And of course, who better to convince NPR that there’s healthy room for heresy within Church teaching than Jamie Manson, the head of Catholics for Choice, as in “reproductive choice,” or in layman’s terms, the choice to kill an unborn child. Forget that the name of that organization is practically an oxymoron in and of itself, Manson argued that there needs to be “better dialogue” between Catholic authority and pro-choice Catholics.
If there are a vast swath of pro-choice Catholics within the fold, well then Manson’s right, there needs to be “better dialogue.” Clearly some Church leaders are allowing people to be confused about the morality of abortion rather than speaking unequivocally about its evils.
Manson stated, There are many issues in which Catholics are dissenting from the bishops and seeing that these are complex moral issues, whether it's same-sex marriage, whether it's contraception, or whether it's abortion.”
Though Catholics for Choice and NPR really mean is that there should be more leniency on Church members that seek to ignore the Church’s pro-life mandate, and Biden’s presidency could usher that in. The outlet added, “Polling suggests a majority of American Catholics support abortion rights in most or all cases and oppose overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.”
So that’s evidence that the Church should be more “permissive” on abortion? Wrong. Those Americans should leave the Church if they can’t abide by its clear teachings on the dignity of life and the fifth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”
