Newsflash: The Catholic Church doesn’t bless same-sex marriage. A 2,000 year-old doctrine of the Catholic Faith is as annoying to the left caths, modernists, and secularists as ever.
The Vatican released the “shocking” decree Monday March 15, which reaffirmed the Dogma of Christian Marriage as being between a man and a woman. The Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith responded to a formal inquiry “Does the Church have the power to give the blessing to unions of persons of the same sex." The answer was “Negative”.
Pope Francis approved this statement. The Pope clarified the sinfulness and disordered nature of homosexuality; that God “does not and cannot bless sin”. Therefore to impart a blessing on any relationship outside of marriage (which by definition is between a man and a woman) is not “licit”.
This drew the normal litany of critiques from low-information celebrities on Twitter and from various news outlets. The Catholic Church was being “old-fashioned” and “hypocritical.”
Pope Francis, who has been celebrated by progressives for his sympathetic comments towards the LGBT community, was deemed no longer “cool” by Rolling Stone, which wrongly thought the Church was closer to approving same-sex marriage under his papacy. How could he? Certainly not when he is “the face of a retrograde thousand-year-old religious institution,” as Rolling Stone put it.
CNN characterized the Vatican’s refusal to update this age-old tenet as a “set-back”.
Many Hollywood types have delighted in this opportunity to drag the Church. Elton John put the Vatican on blast by tweeting “How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they “are sin”, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in “Rocketman” - a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David?? #hypocrisy”. Thankfully, the Catholic Church remains exclusively infallible on matters of faith and morals -- investment picks? Not so much.

George Takei, otherwise known as Sulu of Star Trek was not pleased with the Catholic Church either. “In the end, the Vatican is a deeply conservative and often outmoded institution. We applaud when it makes progress, but it is beginning from a fairly low baseline. Marriage is marriage. Unions are unions. Love is love.”

Billy Eichner, “a nice gay gentleman,” administered a fatal serve to the Magisterium with his tweet “On a serious note, to everyone who goes out of their way to talk about how “cool” this pope is...NO. The Catholic Church has abused the LGBTQ community for MILLENIA. So, go to church if you need to I guess but THAT’s what you’re enabling. Bye!”

Ana Navarro-Cardenas, co-host of the View, lamented: “This breaks my heart for my LGBTQ Catholic friends who badly want the blessing of The Church they love, but doesn’t accept them. As an imperfect Catholic, I wish The Church would spend its energy condemning scandals it has covered-up for millennia, and recognize love is love.” To say the Church does not accept them is damaging and false. The only thing the Church does not accept is sin, as it should not.

Moral outrage and condescension from blue checks on Twitter? The Church must be doing something right.
