‘It Was Charles’ — Morning Joe Chides Prince Harry for Implying His Dad’s the Racist One

Posted on 10 March 2021

On Tuesday's Morning Joe, they discussed who was the "racist" in the British royal family who worried about the skin color of Prince Harry's baby. Mika Brzezinski said "no names...except it was Charles." That sounded rude, but it became clear that Mika and Joe Scarborough were agreeing on a criticism of Prince Harry, who made the allegation during the must-watched CBS interview he and Meghan Markle gave to Oprah -- or Oprah gave to them.  "They have totally exposed the next King of England . . . If you're going to have that explosive of a charge . . . you need to give us a name. If you're going to accuse an institution that's been around for over 1,000 years of that type of racism, and the whole world is up in arms about it, you got to provide a name . . . Right now, the presumption is that it's Charles. So he's doing a grave disservice to his father if it's not Charles." Scarborough said that he was surprised that some people had been offended when he made that same point on Monday.  So, on this one, let's give Joe and Mika credit for standing up for some modicum of fairness and journalistic principles. It shouldn't be acceptable for CBS to just cast aspersions on an entire family and not demand this petulant prince put a name on his accusation.  It just had to be a moment to accuse someone anonymous of racism. They were going to make an Oprah Special, so you knew it had to have some kind of tale of Meghan suffering from racism -- from the press, and from the palace. Otherwise, how do you gets tongues wagging?  But where's the journalism? Where's the evidence? Are they too famous to be bothered to produce evidence/ Unfortunately, on Tuesday afternoon, the royal family responded with a statement that did not deny this tale of "which color will the baby be?" but merely said this story should be resolved outside the media bubble. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately," read the Queen's statement.  One might suggest if the royals were truly racist, the huge Harry & Meghan wedding extravaganza would have never happened.  Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski criticizing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for failing to name the member of the Royal Family they claim expressed concern over the color of Meghan's prospective children was sponsored in part by Neutrogena and DirecTV. Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 3/9/21 6:02 am ET MIKA BRZEZINSKI: And some big news! I mean, to say that they were asking questions about what the child would look like? My God!  JOE SCARBOROUGH:  But providing no names. . MIKA: Well, no names, no names, except it was Charles.  SCARBOROUGH: I mean, come on. MIKA: Okay. No names. We're not going to tell you. But it was Charles. SCARBOROUGH: Totally, totally outed his father. He said: oh no--it wasn't grandma. Was it grandad? No, it wasn't granddad. But it was a member of the family. MIKA: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH: Who doesn't have a lot of hair.  MIKA: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH: Well, come on. I mean, he's totally, they have totally exposed the next King of England. They need to come out--if you're going to have that explosive of a charge. And this for some reason, this offended people yesterday when I said it.  MIKA: Uh, yeah! SCARBOROUGH: If you're going to have -- no, I'm saying, that I said you know, you need to give us a name. If you're going to accuse an institution that's been around for over 1,000 years of that type of racism, and the whole world is up in arms about it, you got to provide a name, unfortunately, Willie. And I think, again, the -- right now, the presumption is that it's Charles. So he's doing a grave disservice to his father if it's not Charles.
