“The Idea of Easter is Unfortunately a False Hope” – Mayor DeBlasio Says New York City will Likely Remain Closed Until May (VIDEO)

Posted on 27 March 2020

New York City Mayor Bill DeBlacsio joined ABC News on Friday morning to discuss the coronavirus crisis in his city.

DeBlasio told George Stephanopoulos his city needs more ventilators and medical supplies to battle the COVID-19 crisis.

Bill DeBlasio: I don’t want to give people a false hope and they get hit by a ton of bricks and it turns out it’s not real. The overall projection, we believe over half the people in this city will ultimately be infected. Thank God, for 80% that will be very little impact in truth we see that for 80% consistently a cold or flu and you get out of it in 7 to 10 days… But for 20% of the people it’s going to be tough and for some of them of course, it’s going to be fatal… Before it goes down we’re going to go through a sharp growth period.

George Stephanopoulos: The president has talked about opening some parts of the country by Easter. That’s his hope. You just talked about New York… Should we expect New York to basically be closed until May?

Bill DeBlasio: I think George we have to be ready for that… This idea of Easter is unfortunately a false hope.
