Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) had a meltdown on the House floor Friday morning during debate on the $2 trillion stimulus bill to deal with the impact of COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus. During her rant she yelled that medical professionals will “see darkness” and will be “pushed” during the crisis and that society needs them to stand together.
Stevens, whose state is being hit hard this week by the virus, wore pink hospital gloves while she spoke. Stevens went over her time and her voice rose as she was gaveled out of order by presiding officer Rep Anthony Brown (D-MD). House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) yielded Stevens thirty more seconds to speak which she used up and then kept screaming. When she finally finished, Stevens sat down next to a smiling Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), bringing speculation that her meltdown was staged.

One observer noted Stevens may have staged this for effect, “Call me a cynic, but I suspect it was orchestrated to prop up Stevens back home in her nominal Republican district. Especially since she huddled with a smiling Pelosi afterwards.”
