In case anyone was hoping for something crazier to cancel than Mrs. Butterworth, look no further than a statue of Captain America himself. Or rather, an imaginary one. Yes, one of the latest controversies of these overly sensitive times is a Twitter post featuring a statue of Captain America in a new video game. It doesn’t get much more childish than that.
Taking down statues is starting to become a hobby to folks on the far left, as well as many journalists (but I repeat myself). Now, the Twitter sphere is setting its eyes on virtual statues as well. In a now deleted post, the Twitter handle for the Marvel’s Avengers video featured an image of a Captain America statue in a virtual park. The post also came with the caption “Heroes Park once celebrated the Avengers, but has since been defaced. Despite the AIM drones that surveil the area, there are still people who believe and pay their respects to Captain America.”
As you can imagine, the fact that the video game account even implies that defacing old statues is a bad thing didn’t sit well with the online mob. Coupled with the fact that Captain America is a white male hero from World War II, this apparently comes across as “insensitive.” The Marvel’s Avengers account says as much in its apology tweet from June 16.
We’ve heard your response to our recent post and agree that now was not the appropriate time to share this content from our game. We apologize for being insensitive.

It’s bad enough that our media and politicians can’t stand up for real-life figures, but bending the knee for showing statues of fictional superheroes is just sad. When the original anti-fascist Captain America is cancelled, there’s no hope for the rest of us.
