Always Anti-Trump Spin First: CNN Gloats ‘The Virus Is Winning,’ President ‘In Full Retreat’

Posted on 24 July 2020

Damned if you do! For months, the liberal media has been pounding President Trump over his approach to the coronavirus, demanding that he cancel large events, castigating him for claiming that the virus was under control, etc. Now, the president has signaled a change of course. In his press conference of Tuesday, he acknowledged that the pandemic "will probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better." And yesterday, he canceled the Jacksonville component of the RNC convention, saying "the timing is not right" given the state of the virus in Florida. So you might have thought the MSM would hail Trump revising course. Actually, you know better. This is the liberal media, after all. They have to be more than 90 percent negative, every day. Take CNN's New Day kicking off the 6 am hour this morning. Far from commending the president, the show labeled him a loser.     With the chyron blaring "Trump caves to worsening pandemic," co-host John Berman gloated: "This morning, the virus is winning, and now the president is in full retreat. In retreat from his own decisions, actions, and rhetoric that gave the virus an edge. "  After Berman ended his anti-Trump blast, Alisyn Camerota piled on, sniffing that President Trump is merely acknowledging the virus is not under control,  "something most of the American public has known for a long time." There's an obvious lesson to be learned. Between now and Election Day, there will be absolutely no appeasing the liberal media when it comes to President Trump's handling of the pandemic. There is literally nothing President Trump could do that the MSM would be incapable of twisting into a mistake and a defeat.  They've decided this is the silver bullet or the golden ticket, and they're going to exploit it with all of their "news"-making energy.  Here's the transcript. CNN New Day 7/24/20 6:00 am EDT VARIOUS VOICES [show-opening tease set to dramatic music]: This epidemic is dramatically accelerating. Now the deaths are coming . . . We passed four million confirmed Covid-19 cases across this country. [President Trump] Districts may need to delay reopening for a few weeks. That'ill be up to governors . . . We don’t have a national strategy. Now we’re just saying to all the schools, figure it out on your own . . . The president went from moving the convention in North Carolina, then he's canceling the one in Florida. It wasn’t that long ago that the president was holding rallies . . . He has been told that his opponent in this election is the virus, and it is very clear that he sees that the virus is winning. . . .  JOHN BERMAN: And this morning, the virus is winning. More than 1,000 deaths reported for the third day in a row. Total coronavirus cases now more than four million and growing fast. Hospitalizations just about at an all-time high.  The virus is winning, and now the president is in full retreat. In retreat from his own decisions, actions, and rhetoric that gave the virus an edge. He abruptly canceled his Florida acceptance speech for the Republican convention. A speech that he had moved to Florida because North Carolina would not let him do it in a full, unmasked stadium. It was the president who demanded an indoor rally in Tulsa last month, despite pleas from health officials and staff members getting infected. It was the president who mocked masks and refused to wear one for months, before a reversal this week. Though, he still did not wear a mask last night, posing with Little Leaguers at the White House. ALISYN CAMEROTA: Hmm. Well, the president’s actions finally reveal that the virus is not under control in the United States. It’s not going to simply disappear, as he had claimed. This is something most of the American public has known for a long time. CNN's damned-if-you-do attitude toward President Trump was sponsored in part by Liberty Mutual.
