On Thursday, Glamour magazine ran an excerpt of the death lobby’s latest pro-abortion book, The Lie That Binds, written by NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue (pictured) and Research Director Ellie Langford.
In the piece, the NARAL gals try to make the case that abortion is so popular, it’s crazy that it’s even a political issue:
…The overwhelming majority of Americans support—and always have supported—maintaining the legal right to abortion. Right now that support is at an all-time high of 77%... Protecting reproductive freedom is a winning issue with the American public. So why are we in the midst of an all-out assault on reproductive freedom?
This 77 percent number comes from a 2019 NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll that actually found 26 percent of that 77 percent “would like to see [Roe v. Wade] remain in place, but with more restrictions added.” Of course, only 62 percent of Americans even know what Roe v. Wade was about, so to get more accurate results about abortion opinions, polls have to ask more specific questions.
Turns out, according to this same 2019 NPR poll, NARAL’s version of “reproductive freedom,” i.e. support for abortion at any time for any reason, even up to birth, is not a winning issue with the America public:
In all, 61% said they were in favor of a combination of limitations that included allowing abortion in just the first three months of a pregnancy (23%); only in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the woman (29%); or only to save the life of the woman (9%). [emphasis in original]
In fact, some of the very policies NARAL would consider “an all-out assault on reproductive freedom” have majority support in this poll:
At the same time, two-thirds were in favor of a 24-hour waiting period from the time a woman meets with a health care professional until having the abortion procedure itself; two-thirds wanted doctors who perform abortions to have hospital admitting privileges; and a slim majority wanted the law to require women to be shown an ultrasound image at least 24 hours before an abortion procedure.
Abortion polling is way more complicated than pro-aborts want you to believe, and yet they accuse the right of “[f]orcing an overly simplistic view of the issues surrounding abortion rights.”
Later on in the Glamour piece, NARAL returns to the subject of popular opinion, still asserting, “The polling unquestionably demonstrates that protecting reproductive freedom is a core American value.” No, abortion is not, and has never been, a core American value!
The gaslighting continues when NARAL hilariously tries to pretend that Republicans and those on the right are given deference in America because their pro-life beliefs are so respected:
Wrapping themselves in ostensibly Christian virtue also means that they’re often given the benefit of the doubt in all aspects of public discourse. No matter the attack, the default assumption of those around them is benevolent intent because they present as being driven by an unimpeachable and divinely inspired set of principles. They are often not asked about or held accountable for policies they propose, much less those that spring from their infrastructures and founding philosophy. They can ignore children in cages, promote self-serving tax policy, or deny health care to millions of Americans during a global pandemic simply by dog-whistling “abortion.”
I don’t know what planet they’re living on, but it’s not the one here on earth where a radical pro-abortion org gets to bash conservatives in a popular women’s fashion magazine and nobody blinks an eye. This is not even the first time Glamour has given the NARAL president a platform to push the pro-abortion agenda. In April of 2019, Hogue wrote to tell corporate America to stand up for “reproductive freedom.”
I look forward to the day when pro-life organizations are given a voice in Glamour. Maybe that’s happening right now on NARAL’s imaginary planet...
