The media’s “Homecoming King” Andrew Cuomo continues to get treated like royalty by his adoring media fans. While on The View today, the hosts gushed over his leadership while encouraging him to deflect blame from his own nursing home scandal and blame President Trump instead.
Co-host Sunny Hostin started off the show puffing up the Democrat’s already over-inflated ego:
“Governor, few people have a better understanding of how to manage the pandemic than you do. What is your prediction for the country as we head into winter?” she asked.
After that, co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg helped Cuomo avoid responsibility for his own irresponsible decisions by attacking and blaming President Trump for COVID deaths instead:
BEHAR: So in a taped interview back in April, Jared Kushner told Bob Woodward that Trump was, quote, getting the country back from the doctors. Now basically he's admitting that Trump has no interest in listening to the scientists for the doctors. Now why do you think that Trump is so threatened by doctors and scientists?
...
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: ...[C]oronavirus is now the third leading cause of death in America, and you say, and rightfully so I think, but I'm going to ask you, you're holding you-know-who responsible for every death in New York from COVID. I'm going to say to you, why?
Cuomo claimed Trump denied and lied about the virus and didn’t listen to scientists or doctors. “They wanted to lie to the American people,” he told Joy Behar. He was more nasty in his response to Whoopi, while adding in his own deceptive spin about the virus not coming from China:
I'm holding you-know-who responsible for every death in this country. First, Whoopi, because he lied about it. He lied about it. : From day one, they had that memo in January from a person, Peter Navarro saying millions are going to die. They lied about it, and they knew that millions were going to get infected, and that hundreds of thousands were going to die. That's the first reason. The old book says don't lie, right? Second, they were totally incompetent in what they did. He keeps talking about the China virus, China virus, China virus, trying to demonize China. The virus did not come here from China. The virus came here from Europe because he wasn't paying attention and the virus left China, went to Europe...
Sunny Hostin did follow up with one loaded question about his nursing home scandal, full of skeptical qualifiers. Cuomo of course pulled the same routine he did with CNN and completely denied he ever sent such an order, even though the proof is there, and blasted the Department of Justice for holding him accountable by investigating the issue (click expand):
SUNNY HOSTIN: Governor, I want to say this book is absolutely fantastic. I think it's just a guide to how to deal with this pandemic, but let me ask you this. There has been a lot of confusion about an alleged March 25th order that directed nursing homes to accept in New York, infected COVID patients, possibly leading to the death of more than 6,000 seniors. Now you say in your book that that was a lie, that New York state never demanded or directed that any nursing home accept a COVID positive patient. The Department of Justice however is now supposedly looking into this issue. Can you explain what really happened?
ANDREW CUOMO: Yeah. What a shock that the department of injustice sends a letter a few days before an election trying to advance a political theory. I was shocked and amazed that the Trump administration was capable of such a thing. Sunny, they have played politics on this from day one, right? They have done a terrible job on COVID from day one, and they want a counterdefense, and what they were saying was, well, a lot of people died in nursing homes in democratic states. It's not just New York. It's all the democratic states, and the truth is a lot of people did die in nursing homes in democratic states. The truth is people are dying today in nursing homes in Republican states. It's just that democratic states had the disease worse and earlier, and older people are more vulnerable to COVID right? We were introduced to COVID in the state of Washington in a nursing home. If you look at how many people died in New York nursing homes, New York is number 46 out of 50 states in the percentage of deaths in nursing homes. The way the law works is no nursing home in New York can accept a patient if they don't believe they can care for that patient adequately, and if they can do it within the -- within the safety of their facility. So the conspiracy they're trying to spread just has no factual basis, but yes. People in nursing homes died, and they're playing politics with the issue which I think is especially cruel because people who lost loved ones in a nursing home, they're dealing with it, and now they also have to deal with the confusion or the pain of maybe government did this. It just compounds -- it just compounds the pain for these families that are dealing with it, and it's just -- it's not factually true. What happened in nursing homes is the disease came in with the staff. Early on before we understood that there was something called asymptomatic spread because the Trump administration said there was no asymptomatic spread, but nursing home workers in that community showed up for work and they brought the disease into the nursing home, and that's continuing to today all across the nation. We've taken more precautions than any other state. We now test every nursing home worker once a week, but early on, you didn't have the tests and nobody knew that you had this thing called asymptomatic spread.
Instead of pressing the Democrat on that answer, Joy Behar followed up with more fawning. She touted Cuomo's new book praising his own leadership and asking, "What are we missing [about the virus]? Tell us."
The hosts ended the show asking about the Democrat's love life, a weird preoccupation for some female journalists it seems:
"We had Chelsea Handler on yesterday who has admitted to having a significant crush on you, and she asked us to follow up on something," Hostin gushed before playing a clip from yesterday's show. "Governor, are you ghosting Chelsea Handler?" the co-host asked as they all giggled.
On that serious note, Whoopi Goldberg offered more flattery to Cuomo to end the segment:
“One thing that I know we all want to say to you is thank you for your leadership. You really did pull us up and out of the deep muck, and I thank you for that. I thank you for that,” Whoopi gushed.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Governor, few people have a better understanding of how to manage the pandemic than you do. What is your prediction for the country as we head into winter?
CUOMO: You know, I think it's what the scientists said. The difference that we've made in New York is that we've followed the science from day one. We followed the facts…
...
JOY BEHAR: So governor, we love having you on the show because when you are here, we know we're not being preempted. It's really great. We have been -- get it?
CUOMO: I got it.
BEHAR: Never mind. [chuckles] So in a taped interview back in April, Jared Kushner told Bob Woodward that Trump was, quote, getting the country back from the doctors. Now basically he's admitting that Trump has no interest in listening to the scientists for the doctors. Now why do you think that Trump is so threatened by doctors and scientists?
CUOMO: Joy, I don't think it was just that. I think it was worse than that, frankly. I think what they were saying was they wanted to deny it. Politically they didn't find it adventageous so they were going to deny the virus, and the doctors were inconvenient and facts were inconvenient, and science was inconvenient, because their political plan was to leave it to the states, let the states handle it which was bizarre to me...The doctors and the facts disrupted their political agenda, joy. That's what it was all about. They wanted to lie to the American people.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Yeah. Well, because the doctors aren't political. They're just telling you what's out there and what you got to do, and coronavirus is now the third leading cause of death in America, and you say, and rightfully so I think, but I'm going to ask you, you're holding you-know-who responsible for every death in New York from COVID. I'm going to say to you, why?
CUOMO: I'm holding you-know-who responsible for every death in this country. First, Whoopi, because he lied about it. He lied about it.
WHOOPI: Yep.
CUOMO: From day one, they had that memo in January from a person, Peter Navarro saying millions are going to die. They lied about it, and they knew that millions were going to get infected, and that hundreds of thousands were going to die. That's the first reason. The old book says don't lie, right? The virus came here from Europe because he wasn't paying attention and the virus left China, went to Europe. January, February, March we had 3 million people coming in from Europe. Italy, France, Spain. That's where the virus came from, and he never knew that, and he never said it. No. This is a -- this is all on his doorstep, and it still is, and the most obnoxious -- you know that 110,000 people more are going to die because you won't wear a mask, and your own neurosis keeps you from wearing a mask? All of your advisers say at least tell the American people protect themselves. Wear a mask, and you refuse? I mean, how? How crazy.
WHOOPI: Pretty crazy.
...
